Learning Disability Friends
The Learning Disability Friends project delivers free acceptance sessions to groups of professionals, students and other stakeholders in the Oldham area. In these sessions, you will learn about the barriers faced by people with learning disabilities and autistic people and the adjustments that we can make in our roles to help them thrive.
Neil, a social worker employed by OPAL, and Nicola, an adult support worker with Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council’s Changing Futures service, co-deliver sessions.
Objectives:
- To develop an understanding of the way that society disables people with learning disabilities and autistic people
- To dispel some of the myths around learning disability and autism
- To develop an understanding of how we can adjust our practice to support people with learning disabilities and autistic people to thrive
